A Thought for Today

I wish you Christmas every time your eyes close.

This One Does It For Me!

Dear Ken,

I'm new here so please excuse me if this is a dumb question.

I want to surprise my wife with a Rod McKuen Christmas album. Has he done such an album and if so, where will I find it?

Thanks.

Richard.

Boy, have you come to the right place, Richard. How about an album containing the following numbers performed by Rod?

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Simple Gifts, Bethlehem BC, Thank You For Christmas, The Lovers of December, The Carols of Christmas, The Day After Christmas, Life Is Too Short Not To Believe In Santa Clause and Santa's Christmas Band.

Sound good? It gets even better because it won't cost you a cent! All the above numbers are available as free downloads from this site. You'll find them at the following link:

www.rodmckuen.com/jukebox.htm

You'll find a number of other McKuen songs there as well so I guess it's fair to say Christmas has come early for you this year.

Stanyan House also have a number of Christmas compilations in stock and you can check them out at the following address:

Thanks for writing, Richard, and welcome to A Safe Place To Land.

I'll be back next week with what will probably be the last edition of this column for 2004. Join me then.

Rod's random thoughts If you loved my face as much as you love Christmas, I’d be safe from year to year.

Love is another word for Christmas.

Christmas is more than a celebration; it’s a time of summing up.

GIFT WITHOUT STRINGS

I’ll walk you
just as far
as Christmas Day
and not one hour further,
leaving you to make your way
through the winter and the springs ahead.

A gift I give you
with no ribbon or bright bow
attached to me
or to a Christmas contract.
A present of reality
is made from truth
as much as it is shaped with love.

Go forward, straight ahead.
There are no limits on your life
but those barricades
you’ll build yourself.

Though I give you only words
to unravel on this Christmas day
and words may not seem
such a pretty present,
if you let them work for you
one day you’ll thank me
with a shining smile
brighter than the one I’m sending
                         out and over
to your young face now.
