A Thought for Today

Spring springs surprises faster than the wizard whizzes.

SHATTERED IMAGES

Living as I do at the southern-most tip of Africa means I've never had the chance to have face to face meetings with the good folks who visit here on a regular basis.

Jay Hagan, for example. We've chatted lots via e-mail but never met. Until recently I've had my own mental picture of Jay - a rugged, mountain sort, a man of few words, the strong, silent type. Sort of a Chuck Norris clone, if you will, wrestling a giant grizzly with one hand while simultaneously saving the world from total anarchy with the other. That's how they grow 'em in Kentucky, I thought.

This picture was abruptly shattered following receipt of the letter and photograph below. Judge for yourselves but I think the girls have got it in for Jay for some reason.

Hi Ken,

Well, we have seen Jay in his tiara at Derby last year and now I have managed to document and prove that the Urban Legend of his pointy green shoes is no longer a legend. They really do exist and he really does wear them.

The legend has been circulating on the Message Board for years. Will you be so kind and post this "proof" on the Flight Plan? I know that the regulars of the Message Board will sleep easier knowing this really is true. The proportion of the legend has exceeded most Urban Legends and Classic Legends...this is not to be eclipsed by Nessie or the Sasquatch (Jay is much cuter than either, but that is my opinion).

Thanking you in advance for setting restless minds at ease...Now, where did I put the number for the National Enquirer?

Carol chirped in, too.

OMG!!! They're sequined!!!!! But what's that sitting on the couch in a matching fabric? A hat? A nose warmer? Enquiring minds want to know!

Love and Hugs,

Carol

Ann wouldn't miss an opportunity like this so she chose a poem for today.

Here's a poem to go with the stunning picture of the ever-lovely Captain America that Jana sent you.

Ann.

Thanks ladies (I think) and don't shoot the messenger, Jay!

Even when my memory has a favored day some prisoners refuse escape.

SNEAKER POEM

How many miles
have I been traveling
or have I always
run in place
marking time
upon a treadmill.

I know this much,
I’ve traveled out of me
                     at last.
       I’ve put off the skin
that had I known
was interfering with what waited,
I’d have shed
two dozen years ago.

Your skin is warmer anyway.
Safer to be hiding in.
At times I feel so close to you
that I am surely
on the inside of you
               looking out.

I wonder
just how many thousand miles
these shoes walked
                      and ran
       and trotted down
before they found your doorway
and began to climb the stairs
that would lead them
to the final bedside
and the last dark closet
they would ever come upon.

    AND FINALLY

This has all been a bit much for me so I'm off to lie down in a cool, dark room for awhile.
