On this day in 1930 Ethel Merman
debuts and becomes Broadway’s greatest musical comedy star. In 1968 Apollo VII sends
first telecast from the heavens (not counting the assorted heavenly broadcasts of Jerry
Falwell, Jim & Tammy Faye, Ernest Angley or the televised second coming of Christ
presented by Los Angeles evangelist, Ms. Velma).
Speaking of heavenly things it was on this date in 1978 a Polish poet named Karol Wojtyla
became Pope. Two days earlier he was quoted saying "It’s too early for a Polish
pope". Perhaps he got his information from the Psychic Friends network.
