A Thought for Today

Enjoy the present. The future usually takes care of itself.

FROM the¨BOOKS

WE THOUGHT PERHAPS

We know the clocks are changing
               but we've come prepared.
The three of us have run all day
and all the season too.

You might expect us to be tired.
                 No.

It's just that after thumbing
                      beach to beach
we thought perhaps
that somewhere in our travels
                going from the sand
                   or coming from the water
we might have accidentally come by you.

A loss. But totaling this Summer's gains
                          would not be fair.
And anyway how do you write down secrets
and make them not so secret any more?

The three of us
( the dogs and me )
are maybe tired after all.

But we still hope to see you
                one more time
coming down the beach.

Rod's random thoughts To love somebody truly, it is not necessary to be false to all other relationships.

Friendship never wears a mask. It removes the necessity for masquerading and false faces.

Fear has many faces. Don't let one of them be yours.

REINTRODUCTION

You're here.

Seeing you
the second time
makes me feel
I had my eyes closed
when we met before.

Yes
the whole of it
would be the best.
All pretense
not pretended any more.

But you are here.
That is enough for you
and by necessity for now
            enough for me.

                   You're here.
What happens in this moment,
even if it's nothing,
                 is enough.

-from the 1974 edition of "Moment to Moment" *

*Note: Three distinctly different versions of "Moment to Moment" have been published. The first in 1971 by W.H. Allen in England, the second & third in the United States by Cheval Books in 1972 and Simon & Schuster in 1974, respectively. Each publication featured variations of the text.
