THIS ONE DOES IT FOR ME!

A Thought for Today

You will grow more if you attempt to travel with giants.

Hi Ken,

From the wonderful book, Listen To The Warm, the number eight is my favorite.

I am also looking for that thing that's hardest to find - himself. I have also had to some the times that are alright for the ones that aren't so good.

Sandra Ethridge-Stinson

Great choice, Sandra! One of my favorite books and one of my favorite poems - among a couple of hundred others, of course! I'm only surprised it's taken this long for someone to mention it.

Drop me a line at ken@mckuen.com and let me know about your favorite McKuen poem or song. Contributions are published right here every Wednesday.

God gets the best out of us; the worst is up for grabs.

The pessimist knows very little at all. Only that he's tired of learning.

EIGHT

Clouds are not the cheeks of angels you know
they're only clouds.
                   Friendly sometimes,
but you can never be sure.
If I had longer arms
I'd push the clouds away
or make them hang above the water somewhere else,
but I'm just a man
          who needs and wants,
mostly things he'll never have.
Looking for that thing that's hardest to find -
himself.

I've been going a long time now
along the way I've learned some things.
You have to make the good times yourself
take the little times and make them into big times
and save the times that are all right
for the ones that aren't so good.

I've never been able
to push the clouds away by myself.
                       Help me.

Please.
